Pastoral Care Prayer Healing School
14 Tuesday Afternoons
1:00 - 4:00pm
To be held at
Barnabas House
447 Division Street
Kingston, Ontario
The purpose of this 14 week, 42 hour Pastoral Care Prayer Healing School is to equip and train lay caregivers, facilitators, pastors and interested individuals of all Christian traditions in praying for lasting changes in peoples’ lives and who wish to be trained in prayer ministry.
In Pastoral Care Prayer Healing, Jesus Christ is the "Wonderful Counsellor" (Isaiah 9:6) and He is the One who sets individuals free through focused listening prayer. In prayer healing we ask the Lord Jesus Christ, who is All-knowing, All-powerful and Every-where present, to reveal the origin of the wrong or negative conclusions that a person has come to believe about him/herself and the impact that these negative conclusions on that individuals life.
Prayer healing assumes that the presenting issues that an individual comes with are usually symptoms of deeper unrest and pain due to vows and judgements that person has made and sinful conclusions that he/she has come to.
The Pastoral Care Prayer Healing portion of the school is a blended approach developed through thirty years of pastoral and Christian counseling by Rev. Arthur Zielestra, who was Director of Cornerstone Christian Counselling Centre in Waterloo, Ontario. Prayer healing is biblically based and dependent on the leading of the Holy Spirit.
The Pastoral Care Prayer Healing School consists of:
- Thorough Biblical teaching that is related to this ministry approach;
- Observation. Participants observe both video and “live” demonstrations of how to pray in this manner.
- Practical group ministry sessions. These give the student the opportunity to receive and give healing prayer ministry under the supervision of a trained facilitator.
- Learning to apply the teaching and experience ministry opportunities.
The first four to five weeks of the school we call Encounter and this provides the student with the core foundational teaching on which prayer ministry is built. Based on the teaching of John and Paula Sanford of Elijah House, who were pioneers in the whole area of prayer ministry, the curriculum will focus on:
- Accomplishing Forgiveness;
- Spiritual Rebellion and Generational Sin;
- Soul Ties and Sexual Sin;
- Bitter Root Judgments and Inner Vows; and
- Ungodly Beliefs
During the ten weeks of Pastoral Care Prayer Healing, training will move progressively from teaching to observation to participation. Participants will develop their skills in prayer healing in a practical way, learning to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in ministering to hurt individuals. The curriculum consists of:
- Introduction to Prayer Healing Ministry
- Attitude and role of the Prayer Facilitator
- Prayer Healing Diagnostic Tools and The Setting
- Moving Into Prayer Healing Ministry
- Listening to God, the Person and Yourself
- Complete dependence on Jesus
- Prayer Healing in a Group Setting
- Individual Opportunities for Prayer Healing
- Obstacles, Blockages and Discernment
- After the Healing Session
Two manuals will be provided, Encounter and A Pastoral Care Prayer Healing Manual (approximately 100 pages). These manuals provide a thorough overview, are biblically supported and will be valuable references.
