About Us

Barnabas House is named after the Biblical character Barnabas. His real name was Joseph but the early apostles nicknamed him Barnabas which means Son of Encouragement. "He sold a field he owned and brought the money to the apostles for those in need." (Acts 4:37) Barnabas gave his life in ministry to others. He mentored and encouraged those that many believers rejected, like Saul (later named Paul) and John Mark. At Barnabas House we want to be just like him.

Barnabas House is a place of healing. We feel called to minister to people who have been wounded spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. We are here to facilitate healing in a safe environment.

Barnabas House is a place of Christian ministry. We are trained in prayer ministry and not the social sciences. Our work is carried on by trained volunteers. As a result, our ministry is not based on fee for service. We have no fees and those who come are not asked to pay, nor are they under any obligation to make a donation. The ministry of Barnabas House is designed to complement the work of other healing professions, not replace it.

Barnabas House is a place of prayer. We believe that Jesus Christ is the "Wonderful Counsellor" (Isaiah 9:6) and that it is Jesus, and only Jesus, who sets the individual free. In prayer ministry we ask the Lord Jesus, who is all-knowing, all-powerful and everywhere present, to reveal the origins of the problems that an individual faces.

Barnabas House is a place of unity. We believe that part of our purpose is to deepen and extend fellowship among Christian churches in our area by training and drawing our volunteers from many denominational and church backgrounds. We are an interdenominational ministry, and our calling is to be a resource to Christians and churches in Eastern Ontario.

Barnabas House is a place of learning and equipping. In association with Family Foundations International, Barnabas House offers a range of seminars that are designed to bring healing to broken lives and train individuals to minister in prayer to the needs of others. Based on Jeremiah 6:16, these seminars introduce individuals and couples to God's Ancient Paths. Barnabas House also provides training through Pastoral Care Prayer Healing School and our Internship Program in Prayer Ministry.

If you feel that the ministry offered by Barnabas House might be of benefit to you, then you can either contact us directly for an appointment, or you may be referred by your pastor.
